Flight

Launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome; landing 128 km east of Dzheskasgan.

The former prime crew (Gennadi Manakov and Pavel Vinogradov) was exchanged five days before launch due of medical problems by Gennadi Manakov.

Following a two day solo flight Soyuz TM-24 docked with the MIR space station on August 19, 1996. Valeri Korzun and Aleksandr Kaleri became the 22nd resident crew (first together with Shannon Lucid, later John Blaha / Jerry Linenger).

The French mission CASSIOPÈE carried out physiological and neurological experiments. Some of these experiments were recorded for school lessons.

The scientific experiments of the crew were performed in biology, medicine, Earth observation and space technology. Protein Crystal Growth experiments in several apparatus were also part of the research work.

The resident crew was visited by STS-79, MIR97 and STS-81 crews.

EVAs by Valeri Korzun and Aleksandr Kaleri were performed on December 02, 1996 (5h 57m) and December 09, 1996 (6h 36m) for external cable installation of the MSCA solar array.

Note

Claudie André-Deshays returned to Earth on September 02, 1996 at 07:41 UTC with Soyuz TM-23 spacecraft.
