He studied medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and went on to complete the interdisciplinary Master of Space Sciences at the International Space University in Strasbourg. In 2014, he worked for one year in Antarctica, taking part in European experiments on human physiology and psychology under conditions of complete isolation. He then worked for the French Institute of Space Medicine and Physiology, MEDES, on clinical studies that simulate the challenges the human body faces in space. Since 2018, he has contributed to the medical support of ESA astronauts, where he now serves as Lead Flight Surgeon.
In 2022, he became the first Greek to successfully complete all six stages of the European Space Agency’s selection process for new astronauts, and since 2026 he has been taking part in ESA’s astronaut training programme.
He is active in astrophotography and scuba diving, is a pilot of light aircraft, and takes part in science outreach with more than 100 public presentations. He is an elected member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), The Explorers’ Club, and an associate of the Hellenic Space Center.
