Ph.D.; engineer; at the time of selection employed by United Space Alliance, Houston; semi finalist in NASA group 19 selection. Erdmann is a certified EVA Instructor and Flight Controller on US EVA systems and tasks at the Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas. Additionally, he works as EVA operations liaisons between NASA and Russian EVA experts in both the US and Russian Mission Control Centers and Training Centers. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Dept. for Preventive Medicine at UTMB, Galveston, Texas.
