Bachelor of science and Ph.D. from the Cambridge University; from 1966 through 1979 he worked as instructor in the department of physics at the University of Southampton; from 1979 through 1990 he worked by the chapter of the department of the Atmospheric Sciences Division in British Antarctic Survey; from 1990 through 1994 he worked as the professor of aerospace sciences at the Cranfield Institute of Technology; from 1995 through 1998 he worked as director for studies at the International Space University in France; since 1996 he is Secretary General of European Geophysical Society; British finalist for the first selection of European astronauts, but did not reach the final selection.
