Doctor in biology; professor; in 1977 worked in the department of biology of animals at the University Namur (Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix, Namur); until 2000 he worked as the laboratory head of molecular and struktornoy biology in the institute of molecular biology at the University Namur; since 2001 Director of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics; selected as one of five candidates from Belgium for European astronaut kit in 1977; but was not selected to the detachment.
