Captain, USAF; bachelor of science in aeronautical engineering, Arizona State University, 1957; Master of Fine Arts, University of Denver, 1977; 1963 as military astronaut - class-4 selected; retired from active duties; then working for the private industry. Dwight owns and operates Ed Dwight Studios, based in Denver, Colorado. Dwight has designed memorials and sculptures all over the world.
According to his daughter only a few days after John F. Kennedys death he received orders shipping him out to Germany, to be a liaison officer for a non-existent German test pilot school. Germany had not an own space program. He was never officially notified that he was no longer in the space program, but by order of President Johnson, Dwight was transferred out of the astronaut training program. The main reason was, that he was black. He was then asked to go quietly. Today, as an acclaimed sculptor, he records history in his art.
